What this tool checks
Use this route when the QR code is inside a screenshot. Paste an image from the clipboard, or choose or drop the screenshot file, and Aftermath scans it in the browser for QR content. The result shows the decoded value, reported QR format, source name, and a safety note without opening any link. Use the saved-image route for ordinary photos, and the PDF route for document pages.

Before you start
- PDF pages, multiple-image batches, and non-QR barcode intent belong to dedicated sibling routes.
- The reader does not authenticate the captured screen, code, sender, or destination.

Browser support and permissions
- Modern browser with JavaScript and a browser-decodable image; native detection or the bundled local compatibility decoder may be used.
- No camera, microphone, or screen permission is needed.

Starting facts
- The screenshot or clipboard image can be decoded locally.
- The decoded payload is treated as untrusted text.
Observed operation: Read the pasted or selected screenshot with the available local detector and display the decoded value.
Review the result: Inspect the scheme, spelling and domain before copying the result or choosing any separate navigation action.
Boundary: Decoding cannot establish sender identity, destination safety, payment legitimacy or the intent behind the screenshot.

Choose another tool when
- This route is not the general saved-photo owner, PDF page scanner, batch reader, or multi-format barcode scanner.
- A decoded screenshot value does not prove that the captured source or destination is trustworthy.
If it does not work
- Clipboard access does not provide an image, or the selected screenshot cannot be decoded.
- The QR code is too small, blurred, cropped, obstructed, or low-contrast in the screenshot.
- Neither the native detector nor the bundled compatibility decoder returns a supported QR result.
Things to know
- The route accepts raster images and cannot technically prove that a chosen file originated as a screenshot.
- Detection varies with capture quality and browser support.
- Decoded links are displayed but never opened automatically.
Privacy boundary
Selected images and decoded values stay in the current browser session and are not sent to an Aftermath processing service. How local processing is verified.
