Validation boundary

Why an image upload gets rejected

Check the form’s format, pixel, and size rules separately. A photo can look right and still break one of them. Use a separate copy, change the failing setting, and try the download again.

Image preparation is useful when the chosen pixels, crop, format and measured output remain visible.

Turn the upload notice into a checklist

Copy the accepted format, width and height, minimum and maximum file size, and any background rule. Use the current notice from the destination. Do not guess a requirement from another website.

  • Pixels describe width and height. KB describes file size.
  • A ratio such as 1:1 describes shape, not the number of pixels.
  • DPI/PPI does not add missing image detail.

A rounded KB label can hide a size mismatch

A 100 KB label can mean 100,000 or 102,400 bytes. Aftermath’s image KB fields use 1,024 bytes per KB. If the form uses decimal limits, the lower settings below leave a small margin.

Use these only when the notice states the byte limit or confirms decimal KB. Keep any minimum size requirement too. Check the actual exported size after processing.

Worked example: a PNG that looks like a JPG

An upload form requires JPG. The selected file ends in .jpg, but its contents are PNG. Aftermath can open the supported image; the destination may still reject its format. Choose JPG as the output format and upload the new download.

Check the crop, text, and background

Correct dimensions do not guarantee a useful picture. Review faces, signatures, and text at the final size. Cropping can remove an important edge; padding can add a border the form does not allow.

If a signature becomes faint after shrinking, use a clearer source. Enlarging a small image cannot restore detail that was never captured.

Upload the new file and read the response

A local pass covers the rules you entered and the properties the tool can check. The destination still decides acceptance. Choose the new download rather than the original, and read the exact error if it is rejected again.

Primary workflow evidence

Reproducible check behind this guide

Enter the byte, pixel and format rules, select the photo and compare each measured property independently.

Expected review: Treat missing rules as warnings and use the pass/fail details to decide which property needs a separate correction.

Boundary: The validator cannot assess identity, pose, background, eligibility or undisclosed checks performed by the destination.

Tested 2026-09-01. Deterministic release regression; cross-browser compatibility is not asserted.
